Focus Scripture: Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.” (Psalm 32:8)
Today Buncombe Baptist Association senior adults will come together to enjoy a Senior Adult Patriotic Celebration Luncheon. Psalm 32:8 comes to my mind as a verse that seniors in our churches can understand from personal experience. Often it is as we look backward that we understand how God has instructed and taught us. As a senior I am grateful that at times when I was not paying close attention to God, He was paying close attention to me keeping me on the right path.
When I think about my God’s eye upon me, I am reminded of my ninety-eight-year-old dad. During my mother’s last few years on this earth, arthritis plagued her physical body. She would say to me, “Your dad is always telling me what to do. He won’t let me do anything by myself.” All day he would follow her around making sure she didn’t fall. In the evening he would go before her to the bedroom, turning down the bed sheets and laying out her gown. Wow! Isn’t that just like our God! Not only does He counsel us or guide us along, He prepares the way for us with His eye upon us.
PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for your instruction. Help me to have an open mind and heart to listen and to heed. Thank you that Your eye is always on your children. Help me to aware of your presence. –Amen
