Devotional- October 19th, 2019: Trust in the Lord

Submitted by dbrewer on Sat, 10/19/2019 - 06:04

He will direct your path

My husband, Randy, and I repeat these verses together at the end of each evening.

Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Why should we trust in the Lord?  He is God and He knows everything!  Our understanding is so limited compared to His knowledge. Why should we trust in our limited understanding when God as Psalm 139 reminds us knows all things?

In these verses we are being asked to trust someone we know.  That means we must have a personal relationship with the Lord.  You cannot trust someone that you do not know.

Trusting in the Lord means that we should meditate on His word so that He can reveal to us the way we should go.  Blessings will come as a result of trusting.  When we trust, He delights in showing us what direction we need to take.  The blessing is, “He will make your paths straight.”

Trusting in the Lord instead of relying on our knowledge can give a calming spirit about our decisions.  And in a world full of conflict, a calming spirit is needed.

Life is a journey.  Life is full of decisions. We all want to make right decisions.  God promises that we can, if we look to Him for guidance. D. L. Moody was right when he said, “God never made a promise that was too good to be true.”

Prayer:  Lord, indeed you are trustworthy!  Help me to trust you.  Amen!
