Worship Pastor

First Baptist Church of Swannanoa is seeking a full-time Worship Pastor whose desire is to worship and serve God in Spirit and in truth and lead others to do the same.  Located near Asheville, FBCS is a mid-sized church with an average attendance of 150 – 175.  Rooted in the inerrant, infallible Word of God, we have a rich history of ministry to our community most recently exemplified by ongoing Hurricane Helene disaster relief efforts.  We desire to reach the lost with the good news of God’s saving grace through Jesus Christ and disciple the saved as we seek to be obedient Christ-followers.

The ideal Worship Pastor candidate must have a vital personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and his life should bear witness of strong Christian spiritual and moral character. He must be called by the Holy Spirit to serve as a Worship Pastor and have training and experience to serve in this capacity.  He must meet the qualifications to be ordained. He must have the ability to serve as Associate Pastor as needed and the ability to fill in for the Senior pastor when requested. Minimum formal education requires a Bachelor’s degree with higher education from a Southern Baptist or other likeminded seminary preferred.

The Worship Pastor qualifications, duties, and traits include the following:

  1. Possesses knowledge, skills, creativity, and discernment to plan and implement Biblically sound, corporate worship opportunities utilizing music, media, and other Spirit-led means. 
  2. Leads, directs, and equips Praise, Sound, Audio/Visual, and Streaming Teams as well as Worship Choir, and specialty choirs such as Hand Bells. 
  3. Collaborates with various groups and ministries within the church (Senior Adults, Youth, Children, Disaster Relief, Women, Outreach, etc.) and responds to specific needs such as funerals and events to provide music, worship, prayer, and administrative support as requested.
  4. Possesses strong contemporary worship leadership skills exhibiting appreciation of and ability to incorporate traditional elements appropriately while concentrating on reaching the next generation of believers.
  5. Understands the difference between corporate and personal worship styles and makes appropriate selections focusing on God honoring “worship” rather than “performance.”
  6. Possesses the ability to read music, direct a choir, and play a musical instrument with proficiency to lead or supplement the instrumentation of the worship team.
  7. Selects, obtains, and prepares the necessary resources and tools for Worship Team participants. Examples include weekly team make-up, chord charts, song sheets, accompaniment tracks, and words/song layout for on-screen projection.
  8. Works effectively with people of various ages, talents, and abilities to lead, mentor, equip, and provide opportunities to serve the Lord.
  9. Desires to be an integral part of the FBCS Ministry/Leadership Team collaborating, praying, supporting, and working with other members to carry out the vision and ministries God has given His church.
  10. Has a working knowledge of ProPresenter, Planning Center, and other apps, websites, and software tools used in support of Worship and Church Ministries.
