Greetings from Hospice of the Carolina Foothills – Agape Care North Carolina. As a hospice provider in your area, we have the privilege of walking alongside individuals and families during one of life’s most tender and sacred seasons. In this ministry of presence, volunteers make an extraordinary difference by offering time, compassion, comfort and hope when it is needed most.
We are reaching out to invite you to consider partnering with us by considering serving as a hospice volunteer. This ministry reflects Christ’s love through simple acts of kindness, companionship, and care.
Through our Forest City and Saluda branches we serve patients and families throughout Rutherford, Cleveland, McDowell, Polk, Henderson, Buncombe, and Transylvania counties. While several hospice agencies serve these communities, the people receiving care are neighbors, friends, fellow church members and loved ones. Regardless of which hospice provider they have, many can benefit from the compassionate presence of a volunteer. We also operate inpatient hospice houses in Forest City, NC and Landrum, SC.
Volunteer opportunities include both direct patient care and supportive behind-the-scenes roles.
Direct volunteers may:
- Visit patients and families in their homes, assisted living or nursing facilities, or one of our hospice houses to provide companionship, conversation, prayer, caregiver respite, or simply the comforting presence of someone who ensures a patient does not have to face the end of life alone.
- Visiting with patients to provide respite for a caregiver to attend appointments, go grocery shopping etc. or simply to take a break and have time for themselves.
- Assist with light household tasks such as meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, or running errands that help ease the burden on patients and caregivers.
Indirect volunteers may:
- Make supportive check-in calls to patients and families or provide information about memorial services, grief support groups, and other helpful resources.
- Serve as greeters or provide hospitality and administrative support at one of our hospice houses.
- Provide administrative work at one of our branch offices.
- Assist families with yard work, minor home repairs, or other practical household needs.
- Write encouraging cards for patients and sympathy cards for families who have experienced the loss of a loved one.
Volunteers receive training, ongoing support, and the flexibility to serve in ways that fit their interests and schedules. Many tell us that volunteering becomes one of the most meaningful ministries they have experienced – an opportunity to share Christ’s peace, companion, and love with those nearing the end of life.
